When we are setting up our websites, it is important to take into account eye path. The human eye is naturally drawn to certain things. People also tend to shift their eyes to certain things on a page. By knowing where their attention goes, you know where on your site to place elements that you want them to take note of. Traditional traffic reports can help. You can analyze the navigation paths, for example, and see which links people click on when they enter your site. A heat map, though, allows you to visualize what’s happening on your site. I have not found a better way to get this done than
CrazyEgg.I figured the best way to illustrate to you what CrazyEgg is all about is to show you, so check out my video below. The only drawback to it is the limitation of the number of pages you can test. Many of us use content management systems of some sort, such as
Wordpress. That means that adding code to your footer file (or template) means the code is on your whole site. It’s global. But, CrazyEgg only tests one page at a time. And the most expensive ac count only allows 100 different pages.
Aside from that, this is a great tool in the arsenal of any web designer or webmaster.
